Review: Technaxx Dashcam

TechnaxxGermany FullHD Car Dashcam Recorder Wide Angle Speed Sign Recognition Front Collision and Lane Departure Warnings G-Sensor Vehicle Monitoring

You may not have heard of Technaxx before, but the German company makes a wide range of technology products, including smart Bluetooth glasses, security cameras, and dashcams. Dashcams are becoming more and more popular, but they are also quite pricey. The Technaxx TX-167 tries to walk a line of providing good features at an affordable price.

Recognizes speed signs up to 160km/h
Front collision warning
Lane departure warning
Loop video recording
G-Sensor to safeguard files Big 4” LCD screen

uses a microphone to record sound. output of voices in various languages Considering the 149 Euro price tag it contains features such as speed sign recognition, forward collision alert and even lane departure warnings
Speed Limits The camera will detect speed signs up to 160kph and for the most part the onboard algorithms pick up the signs well. However it did often read side road signs that were visible giving a false speed sign, for example, 50 on a 120kph zone, but it was not too common. I think future versions would be great to have a GPS module option that can automatically know the speed zone.

Forward Collision Alerts

When enabled the camera will monitor how close you are to the car in front and alert you to keep your distance. You need to calibrate this at setup otherwise you may get alerted too often but it’s a nice feature to have for those who don’t like to pay attention to cars in front.

Lane Departure Alerts

The lane departure alerts and overlays certainly look nice on the large clear screen however I did find that the alert would only come when I would cross the line. It would be nicer to have an alert before the line is crossed, a potential software update could resolve this. One other thing that might annoy some is because the dashcam is not aware of your car’s systems, it will alert you even when changing lanes.

Day and Night Samples

I found the camera overall to be quite nice, the large screen is definitely a plus to have, and the clarity while only 1080P was very good in day time and night time.
One aspect that is lacking is an app, the dashcam has no WiFi so you will need to pop out the memory card and put into your computer to get video from it. However, this isn’t a deal breaker for many people because dashcam apps can frequently be awful.
